These photos begin in 1967 with the "5th" Recruit Class.
Prior to this time, some 170 firefighters were hired by the
County beginning in 1949. Those firefighters attended
state fire schools and other training exercises but never a
formal "Recruit Class". There were 4 of these "schools"
prior to 1967 so the first formal class you see here is numbered
the "5th". (Our apologies for the quality of some of the
photos - they are scans of the originals that haven't been taken
very good care of!)
