"Fireground Injury and Death: Tragic Events and Related
Firefighter Close Calls"
Chief Billy G. will present to the attendees, through
incredible video, audio, slides and "WAKE UP" lecture, an
in-depth review of specific fireground events and most
specifically, the LESSONS LEARNED so that these incidents
(and those involved) don't ever become forgotten. Attended
by thousands of firefighters and fire officers since 2000,
this high energy class provides the attendees an excellent
opportunity to apply the LESSONS LEARNED to their own
departments when returning home...potentially avoiding
"history tragically repeating itself". The goal of the
program is to have Firefighters, Officers and Elected
Officials leave more knowledgeable, educated and informed
but most importantly thinking HARD about their role and the
department's responsibility in STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTING! The
subject matter all relates to STRUCTURAL FIREFIGHTING and
their "lessons learned".
Chief Billy Goldfeder, EFO, a firefighter since 1973, serves
as Deputy Fire Chief of the Loveland-Symmes FD in S.W. Ohio.

Fire Chief – Coppell, Texas (Retired)
"The American Fire Service -- A Status Check"
In this multi-part, half-day presentation, Chief Halton will
review the current state of fireground operations in
America, highlighting the disparities in socio-technical
advances and ensuing issues in tactical structural
firefighting. He will review some common myths and will
also debunk some "bad math" as it relates to the fire
service.
The Status of America's Fire Service: Chief Halton will
review our industry's current status. The theory of "Drift
into Failure" will be reviewed as well common perceptions
and realities surrounding the common elements in firefighter
fatalities.
Fire dynamics for the Fireground: Chief Halton will discuss
the latest research in fire dynamics and how to apply the
science to your structural firefighting tactics.
Learning from the Experiences of Others: This section
reviews several case studies, and Chief Halton will explain
why it seems we continue to repeat the same errors. A "New
View of Human Error" will be presented to improve our
ability to learn from others events.
Naturalistic decision making, situation awareness and
expertise: Chief Halton will present the latest research in
the field of naturalistic decision making and what it mean
in terms of developing fireground expertise in company
